The project will be carried out by a research team headed by Professor Otto Anker Nielsen at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). DTU Transport and Aalborg University (AAU) are the two main participants with approximately the same share of the project. DTU Informatics and the Institute for Transport Economics (TØI), Oslo also contributes with larger shares of the project. In addition to this, a number of international leading researchers are attached to the project. The project is organised into five subprojects;
1. The sub-project on systematic biases in transport models will be lead by Professor Bent Flyvbjerg from Said Business School at Oxford University (prior employee at AAU). This project form the overall basis for the other projects, and will thus include contributions from Professor Peter Næss AAU and Professor Otto Anker Nielsen, DTU Transport. Possible methodological contributions may also come from the Nobel laureate, Professor Emeritus Daniel Kahneman from USA, and from Jonas Eliasson KTH concerning Swedish case studies. A Ph.D.-project with Bent Flyvbjerg as main advisor and Otto Anker Nielsen as coadvisor will be linked to this sub-project, corrently occupied by PhD student Morten Skou Nicolaisen (time of completion September 2012).
2. The sub-project on organizational context of modelling will be headed by Professor Peter Næss AAU. This project will also draw upon the other Scandinavian researchers mentioned above – especially Professor Arvid Strand at TØI. A Ph.D.- project with Petter Næss as main advisor and Bent Flyvbjerg as co-advisor will be linked to this sub-project, currently occupied by PhD student Jeppe Astrup Andersen (time of completion October 2012).
3. The sub-project on uncertainty calculation of cost estimates will be headed by Associate Professor Bo Friis Nielsen, DTU Informatics. This project will be closely related to the uncertainty assessment in sub-project 5. A Ph.D-project with Bo Friis Nielsen as main advisor and Steen Leleur as co-advisor will be linked to the project, currently occupied by PhD student David Meisch (time of completion June 2013).
4. The sub-project on uncertainty calculation in Transport Models will be headed by Professor Otto Anker Nielsen, DTU Transport. Bo Friis Nielsen will have a major contribution. Most likely researchers for the Netherlands and KTH in Stockholm will be consulted in the final application. A Ph.D.-project with Otto Anker Nielsen as main advisor and Bo Friis Nielsen as co-advisor will be linked to this subproject, currently occupied by PhD student Stefano Manzo (time of completion June 2013).
5. The sub-project on uncertainty assessment in Transport Evaluation will be headed by Professor Steen Leleur, DTU Transport. A significant contribution will come from Professor David Banister, Oxford University. We also hope that Professor Emeritus Daniel Kahneman will comment the work in this sub-project. It is planned that Kim Bang Salling will continue in a post.doc/Assistant Professorship within this sub-project. Steen Leleur will be mentor for this study.
